Pacific Express Co., San Francisco., red oval handstamp (PAC-108) canceling on 1853, 3¢ Nesbitt entire (Nesbitt backflap seal) to Dr. James Ord in Monterey, with matching red defunct Adams "Paid" in oval handstamp used as a frank, non-contemporary enclosure notation on reverse dating letter to May 9th, 1855, Very Fine, one of three known examples of this San Francisco handstamp in red. Scott No. U2  Estimate $200 - 300. Address to Dr. James Lycurgus Ord. Most historians now agree that he and his brothers are the illegitimate grandsons of King George IV.
