Machine cancel (Williams ALA-3550) tying 1902 1¢ on S.F. postcard to Walla Walla, Washington, message on back "Big earthquakes this morning, great damage done", this was postmarked less than 5 hours after the earthquake, Very Fine, reputed to be the only Post Office open the morning after the earthquake, owner has not seen another but knows they exist, these are the earliest post earthquake items known, very rare.
