New York, N.Y., U.S. City Despatch Post, 1842-45, 3¢ black on blue, deeply blued paper, four large margins, cancelled by red "US" framed handstamp on folded letter to Charleston S.C., red "New-York May 12" cds and blue manuscript "25" rating ties stamp; corner creasing top right, small pre-use tear, Very Fine appearance; with 1974 P.F. certificate. Scott No. 6LB5b  Estimate $200 - 300. This was the first stamp issued by authority of the Post Office Department. The U.S. City Despatch Post was run by the P.O.
