Missouri City, Kans, May 18, cds with matching "Paid" in oval handstamp on 1861 cover to Winterport, Me.; slightly reduced at left, Very Fine, a rare short-lived "Kans" designation postmark. Estimate  $750 - 1,000. The postmaster at Missouri City was another, who when ordering a handstamp, apparently wrongly guessed that the area would remain a part of Kansas. By the June of 1861, the "Kans" portion of this device was chiseled out of the postmark while awaiting the new "C.T." postmark. $0 (Image)
