Leaf, fine strike cancels 6¢ vermilion (U86) entire with Wells Fargo paid frank and bearing Canada 6¢ brown (39) tied by blue "For Great Britain / and Ireland" handstamp from Victoria, British Columbia to London, England, matching blue "Wells, Fargo & Co., Victoria." oval handstamp, endorsed "Via Puget Sound", red "New York May 23" exchange datestamp and red London (6.4) entry c.d.s., manuscript "recd 5/6/72" receipt docketing; no flap and minor edge strengthening, address crossed out, Very Fine appearance. Weiss No. RE-LF1  Estimate $1,000 - 1,500. ONE OF ONLY THREE RECORDED RE-LF1 COVERS, THIS BEING THE ONLY ONE ORIGINATING IN BRITISH COLUMBIA. The combination franking was required for express mail originating in Canada via the United States postal system, the Canadian 6¢ postage prepaid the cross-border rate plus the United States 6¢ postage as payment of the treaty rate to Great Britain.
