Langton's Pioneer Express. Printed frank on cover with Langton "Eureka/Sierra Co." black oval handstamp to Gonzales, Texas, sender's endorsement at left which reads, "Via Panama", which was crossed out and changed to read "by Overland", franked with 1857 10¢ green type V (small faults) tied by "San Francisco, Cal, Jul. 13, 1860" balloon cds, with original letter headed "Eureka S.C. July 4, 1860" from a miner to a friend, letter is separated at the folds and in fragile condition but contents include "I have worked my Creek Claim out and took more gold out of it than expected… I have invested… into a Tunnel Claim" and "Robbers, thiefs, murders, gamblers and blacklegs are thicker here than Fiddlers in H. Highway robberies are committed every day, and a man that has a few Dollars is watched as close [as] a cat watches a mouse", piece of top backflap missing, Very Fine, an exceptional Langton transcontinental use, ex-Haas, Kutz.
