Hall & Allen's Express/Dutch Flat. A wonderful strike of this rare Express Company oval handstamp on 1853-55 3¢ Nesbitt entire with Wells Fargo printed frank, to Alameda so carried by Hall & Allen's Express from the mines and transferred to Wells Fargo from Dutch Flat to San Francisco where exchanged with "J. Bamber & Co. Contra-Costa Express/San Francisco" black oval handstamp and scarce Bamber "Collect 12½ Cts" black diamond rate marking, "1858" docket on the back, short tear above the indicium and a trifle reduced at right, Extremely Fine with all markings clearly struck, ex-Haas, illustrated in Coburn's Letters of Gold (page 194).
