From Todd's Express Office, Sonora, blue tombstone and matching "Paid" double oval handstamps on blue 1853 folded letter to San Francisco, letter regarding replacing employee who is going to Sydney, N.S.W.…he has been working in the mines since the fall of 1850 and is well known as sharp, active and proper man; light horizontal file fold through Todd's marking, F.-V.F. Estimate  $300 - 400. This Todd, Charles A. Todd, ran his express from 1852 until 1853, when he sold out to Wells, Fargo & Co. in September of that year, giving Wells Fargo their initial foothold in the Southern Mines. $0 (Image)
