Oval handstamp on 1849 cover from Louisiana to San Francisco, postmarked "Mansfield, La." cds with small "10" rate handstamp (crossed out) with "40" rate added, included is interesting original enclosure talking of general conditions in the South, the letter ends, PS: Tell us whether it will do to bring Negroes there or not., some edge wear, F.-V.F., a very rare Express cover used in 1849, one of only a handful known used this early.
