Forwarded By Davis & Brothers Express. Black double-lined oval handstamp on incoming stampless cover to Marysville, "New Garden, Ia" (Indiana) blue straight line origin postmark with "Augt. 26" manuscript date and "10" manuscript rate marking, delivered collect in the mines with "R B" (?) and "1.50" pencil Express rate, Very Fine and rare, one of only two known of which the other example is illegible, ex-Clifford, Haas. EstimateĀ  $750 - 1,000. Cover illustrated in Nathan's "Franks of Western Expresses" (page 54) and Coburn's" Letters of Gold" (page 181). Both authorities state that Davis & Brothers may have ran between Quincy and Honey Lake in 1858. However, this cover was clearly picked up in Marysville. In addition, given the 10Ā¢ collect rate and August postmark date, this cover must have been sent between 1851 and 1854. $0 (Image)
