Fort Lyon, C.T., May 8, 1863, bold full strike of cds (Bauer No. 1) on cover to Illinois, franked with 1861, 3¢ rose (few nibbed perfs) cancelled by central target handstamp; slight cover reduction at left, Very Fine, an exceptional strike of this short lived postmark known used between April and July of 1863, considered to be the earliest known strike of this Fort Lyon postmark, ex-Risvold. Scott No. 65  Estimate $300 - 400. To protect travelers in the Arkansas Valley, Fort Wise was established near Bent's Fort. On August 2, 1862 the name was changed to Lyon. $0 (Image)
