Favor's Express, Boston, 10 Court Sq., red company circular cachet on flap of folded letter datelined "St. John 12th May 1852" and endorsed within "Admiral", addressed to New York N.Y., entered mails with "Boston '5cts' 14 May" cds for the 5¢ rate and matching "Steam" straightline handstamp adjacent, Very Fine. Estimate  $1,500 - 2,000. Hiram Favor of Eastport Me. was appointed a letter carrier for the mails between Boston and St. John with stops at Portland and Eastport. Favor ran the service between 1849 and 1859 using the steamship "Admiral" throughout. Only when on its annual dry docking were other vessels used. $0 (Image)

Favor's Express, Boston, 10 Court Sq., double-struck red company circular cachet on flap of folded letter datelined "St. John Apl 3 1851" addressed to Philadelphia Pa., entered mails with red "Boston '10cts' 7 Apr" cds for double the 5¢ rate, black "Steam" straightline handstamp adjacent with manuscript "2" for double-weight charge, Very Fine. Estimate  $750 - 1,000. Favor's Express was based in Boston and operated from 1850 two sister vessels, the "Alabama" and the "Florida", both of 1,261 gross tons built at New York. The company served the express route to St. John, New Brunswick calling at Providence and Eastport, Maine. A company cachet was applied to loose letters handled on the route and there was a 5¢ charge made for letters travelling between St. John and U.S. post offices. $0 (Image)
