Cross Roads, contrasting strike in red ties 12¢ blackish violet (162), s.e. at left, on 1874 cover to London, England, matching "New York Paid All Jul 21" exchange cds, red London (8.3.74) arrival cds, clean and Very Fine. Weiss Nos. TR-C1  Estimate $400 - 600. The 12¢ postage prepaid the 6¢ treaty rate plus 6¢ supplementary mail fee. The cover was carried on the Guion Line "Wisconsin" that arrived at Queenstown on August 2, 1874. This correspondence is from Mary Fairfax Morris (1848-1924), the grand-daughter of Governor Morris, and Alfred J. Davenport who she married sometime in 1874 in England. Morrisania was part of their family land.There are only a few supplementary mail letters recorded that did not receive a "Supplementary Mail" datestamp or handstamp.
