1870 (Jan. 1) Buffalo, N.Y. to Paris, France, Shepard correspondence cover bearing 1869, 10¢ yellow, strip of three with radiant color, tied by Buffalo duplex, red "New York Dec 4" exchange cds updated to correct "Jan 4" with second strike, blue Cherbourg (1.15) entry cds, large black double-weight "16" decimes due handstamp; 1870 docketing at left, Very Fine, ex-Juhring. Scott No. 116  Estimate $500 - 750. This was probably intended to be double the 15¢ rate, but the treaty had expired the previous day so it went by direct mail (10¢ per ½ oz. per Act of July 1864) by Hapag Line direct to Cherbourg. $0 (Image)
