Wide margins, used with 10¢ Brown Bank Note (faults) tied by quartered cork cancels on cover addressed in purple to a whaling ship captain in care of the U.S. Consul at Valparaiso, Chile postmarked with "Yarmouth Me. Feb. 14" (ca. 1871) circular datestamp, markings include red "New York 12 Feb. 15" credit datestamp, red "25" handstamp for internal Chilean postage, some toning and minor cover faults, still Fine, a rare 1869 and Bank Note Issue combination for the 22¢ British Mail rate to Chile. Tied by blue target cancel on 1877 cover to Auckland, New Zealand, with matching perfect strike of blue "National City, Cal., Aug 8" cds below (Williams SAN-3360), sent direct rate via San Francisco, Auckland receiver on reverse; stamp with some light perf toning, Very Fine and choice, a very scarce destination and early usage from National City with postmark pre-dating the earliest recorded by almost 4 years; with 1978 & 2006 P.F. certificates. 1869, 12¢ green. Tied by blue cork cancel on blue 1869 folded cover to Liverpool, England with matching "Savannah Ga. Nov. 13" circular datestamp, manuscript "Pr. Nemesis fm N.Y.", markings include red New York transit, blue 1869 forwarders datestamp, receiving backstamp, small repaired tear at top shows scotch tape mark, Fine, a rare transatlantic crossing, this is the only voyage where the Nemesis carried mails from New York because five of her six trips from New York as a Cunarder were made when the Cunard Line refused to carry the American mails.
