1867 (Nov. 2) Athens, Greece to New York, N.Y., folded cover with Athens (10.21) cds and French "Greece, 11 Nov" entry cds, carried by Inman Line City of Washington from Queenstown Nov. 14 to New York arriving Nov. 25, various manuscript and h.s. ratings, some ink erosion, Fine, a very scarce letter from Greece by French treaty. Estimate  $150 - 200. Letter date in Gregorian calendar was 2 November 1867. Paris marked 2x18=36¢ debit to U.S. for double rate letter by American packet service direct to New York, then crossed through and marked 2x27=54¢ debit for British packet service via England. This too was crossed through and finally marked 2x21=42¢ debit for American packet service via G.B. New York marked postage due in dual rates in upper right, 81¢ in coin and 60¢ in depreciated greenback currency. $0 (Image)
