1867 (Jun. 3) Galesburg, Ill. to Lossiemouth, Scotland, cover bearing 1861, 24¢ lilac, couple perf flaws, tied by blue "Galesburg Ill. Jun 3" duplex, scarce Chicago red "3 Cents" credit h.s. to G.B., carried by Allan Line Nova Scotian from Quebec Jun. 8 to Liverpool arriving Jun. 18, "Glasgow Packet Paid JU 19 1867" h.s.; light soiling, F.-V.F. Scott No. 78  Estimate $200 - 300. Letter carried by rail on the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad to Chicago, where the unusual red 3/CENTS credit marking was applied. Letter then placed in a closed mail bag for Glasgow, Scotland, an exchange office since 1860. From Chicago it was carried on the Michigan Central Railroad to Detroit and Canadian Grand Trunk Railroad to Quebec, where it went on board the Allan Line steamer. The closed mail bags remained on the steamer until arrival at Liverpool, then were transported unopened to Glasgow, where the GLASGOW PACKET marking was applied. $0 (Image)
