1866-67 (circa) New York, N.Y. to Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, printed circular endorsed "pr Guilding Star via Rio de Janeiro" and prepaid with 3¢ rose (65) horizontal pair, single pulled perf, tied by NYFM geometric cancels, blue crayon "40" reis postage due rating, Very Fine, an exceedingly scarce printed matter use to South America, ex Richard Winter. Estimate $1,000 - 1,500. The 6¢ postage prepaid the rate for 6-9 unsealed circulars. This was the domestic rate required for circulars sent by steamship to a country with which the United States had no convention. Although the exact date can not be determined, "Guiding Star" made only three round voyages for the line departing New York on September 22nd 1866, December 21st 1866, and September 23rd 1867. $0 (Image)
