1863, 2¢ black, Earliest Known Used Example. Cancelled by clear "Philadelphia Pa., Jul 1 1863" town cancellation, rich color and sharp impression, fresh and Fine, ex Berkun; with 1999 A.P.S. certificate. Scott No. 73  Estimate $1,500 - 2,000. THE UNIQUE FIRST DAY USAGE OF THE 2¢ BLACK JACK. The 2¢ Black Jack was issued for prepayment of the new local letter rate that took effect on July 1, 1863. The stamp was issued on the same day, July 1 to satisfy the new 2¢ rate. This is from a new discovery and offered at public auction for the first time. The legendary Allen, Rorke and Metzger collections did not include this key Black Jack piece. $0 (Image)
