1862 (Mar. 12) New York, N.Y. to Triest, Austria, buff cover with dark green "Hotel Jegel, New-York" corner card with red "New-York Mar 12 1862" cds, 35¢ prepaid in cash for 30¢ PCM rate plus 5¢ registration, red manuscript "7" cent credit to Prussia, carried by Cunard Line Arabia from New York Mar. 12 to Queenstown arriving Mar. 24, red Aachen (3.25) transit and matching "Recomandirt" serrated box h.s., Trieste (3.28) arrival backstamp; minor embossing flaw, still Very Fine and attractive. Estimate  $200 - 300. New York had not started to use registration markings, but the circular datestamp used here is seen on registered transatlantic letters. Aachen marked serrated boxed "Recomandirt," the Prussian marking for a registered letter. $0 (Image)
