1861 (Aug. 14) Batavia, Dutch East Indies to New York, N.Y., folded letter with Batavia (8.14) d.s., red manuscript "1/4" 1s4d credit to U.K., "India Paid" framed h.s., London (9.27) transit, carried by Cunard Line Asia from Queenstown Sep. 29 to New York arriving Oct. 11, partial New York 5¢ exchange due cds; some file folds, F.-V.F. Estimate  $200 - 300. Letter paid 25 Dutch Cents (red crayon on reverse) for transit to Singapore and 1s5d for all transit fees in the British mail to New York, where 5¢ postage was due, the British open mail rate by British packet. It was carried from Batavia to Singapore by Dutch steamer Koningin der Nederlanden, then by British P&O steamers Ganges (Singapore to Galle), Bengal (Galle to Suez), Valetta (Alexandria to Marseille), and overland thru France to the U.K. Boxed INDIA PAID marked at Singapore. $0 (Image)
