1860, 24¢ gray lilac + 1¢ blue, type V. Both have bright fresh color, tied by red grids on red and blue Revolutionary War Soldier and Two Flags Patriotic to Barnstaple, England with light strike of matching "New York Am. Pkt." credit cds, markings include red London transit (Sep. 27, 1861) and receiving backstamp, sender's notation "Paid 24c" for postage portion of 25¢ prepaymentVERY FINE. A COLORFUL AND EXTREMELY RARE TRANSATLANTIC USAGE OF A CIVIL WAR PATRIOTIC, PREPAID IN NEW YORK CITY FOR 24-CENT TREATY RATE TO ENGLAND AND ONE-CENT CARRIER FEE. THE 1857 ISSUE WAS ACCEPTED IN NEW YORK EVEN AT THIS LATE DATE.Signed Ashbrook, who notes "A Very Late Use of Old Stamps" and "Scarce" combination. Ex Matthies, Haas, Paliafito and Ishikawa.
