1860 (c., Sep. 21) Belleville Ill. to Brunswick, Germany, brown wrapper bearing 3¢ dull red (26), some scissor trimmed perfs, tied by sharp "Belleville Ill Sep 21" cds and endorsed "Via Bremen or Hamburgh", New York red "Paid All" straightline, carried by NGL Line Bremen from New York Sep. 29th to Bremen arriving Oct. 14th, blue "America / uber Bremen / Franco" three-line transit, blue German (10.15) backstamp, a Very Fine and scarce use at the 3¢ Bremen-Hamburg newspaper rate. Estimate  $400 - 600. The "Via Bremen or Hamburg" routing instructions would indicate contract steamship service of either the North German Lloyd Line to Bremen or HAPAG Line to Hamburg, setting the date after July 1, 1857 when the Hamburg Treaty began. New York marked the red "PAID ALL" because the newspaper was paid to destination. There are four wrappers known from this Belleville Ill. correspondence to Brunswick. $0 (Image)
