1860 (Aug. 8) Boston Mass. to Paris, France, cover bearing two 1¢ blue (24) singles, 3¢ dull red (26) and 10¢ green (35), tied by three strikes of "Paid" circular grids and matching black "Boston '9' Aug 3" debit exchange cds, "Boston Br. Pkt. Aug 8" exchange backstamp and framed "Short Paid" handstamp, carried by Cunard Line Canada from Boston to Queenstown arriving Aug. 20th, Calais (8.22) entry cds and black "24" decimes due rating handstamp; some perf faults from edge placement, F.-V.F. Estimate  $300 - 400. On the west bound trip, "Canada" was reported as leaving Halifax on Aug. 12th. She grounded in the Halifax harbor in the early morning hours of Aug. 10th and had remained there 35 hours. This cover was prepaid for only the single rate of 15¢, but was actually a triple rate with the United States debiting three-times the 3¢ American share. $0 (Image)
