1859 (Jan. 25) Galveston Tex. to Hague, Netherlands, 3¢ red on buff entire (U10) bearing three 3¢ dull red, type IV (26A) singles and three 10¢ green (32) singles, all tied by strikes of partial "Galveston Tex. Jan 25 1859" cds, red "New York 'Paid 18' Feb 5" exchange credit cds, carried by French line chartered Etna from New York Feb. 5th to Havre arriving Feb. 19th, red Havre (2.19) arrival datestamp and matching small "PD" framed handstamp; address crossed out in manuscript, F.-V.F. and scarce French mail use; with 1993 P.S.E. certificate. Estimate  $500 - 750. Havre Line "Arago" was under repairs and as a result the New York mails of Feb. 5th were carried by "Etna", chartered from the Cunard Line. On 18 February she was reported as sailing from Southampton "for Havre" but no report has been found of her arrival there, this cover apparently proves she arrived on Feb. 19th. Cover was prepaid 42¢ for double the 21¢ French mail rate to the Netherlands effective April 1, 1857 to December 31, 1867. $0 (Image)
