1858 (Sep. 4) Pesth, Austria (now Hungary) to New York, N.Y., blue cover with original letter and Pesth cds, Bremen (9.10) backstamp and "5/10" debit h.s. to U.S., "N. York Brem. Pk. '15' Sep 26" debit exchange cds, edgewear, F.-V.F. Estimate  $400 - 600. Letter endorsed for Hamburg steamer but arrived too late. Hamburg sent letter to Bremen for the NGL steamer "Hudson" for its maiden mail voyage, which made only one round voyage as a mail steamer before being destroyed by fire at her berth in Bremerhaven. Pesth debited Hamburg 9 neukreuzer for transit fee to Hamburg and 21 neukreuzer international fee. New York letter carrier added 2¢ carrier fee, making postage due 17¢. Carrier fee notations on transatlantic covers are quite uncommon. $0 (Image)
