1857, 3¢ dull red, type II. Cancelled by pen on orange cover to Bristol R.I., docketing at left reads "Camp on Big Coon Creek Colorado, Oct. 12th 1861", also with manuscript "Rec'd. P.O. Fort Larned Kans. 16 October/61", fresh and Very Fine, scarce usage, carried outside of the mails from Colorado to Kans., Fort Larned was not a regular post office until 1866 and so this was probably carried with other military mail to Fort Riley.
