1855 (Sep. 7) San Salvatore, Kingdom of Sardinia to San Francisco, Cal., folded letter with "S. Salvatore, 8 Set 55" dcds and prepaid manuscript "170" rating on reverse, additional "P.P./S. Salvatore" handstamp, endorsed "Via London", Torino (9.9) backstamp, red Pt. de Beauvoisin (9.12) transit cds, carried by Cunard Line America from Liverpool Sep. 15 to Boston arriving Sep. 28, "Boston Br. Packet 29 Sep" exchange cds and matching "10" cent due rating, docketed as received "Oct 30/55", Very Fine, a scarce British Open mail rate to California. EstimateĀ  $400 - 600. Letter went overland via Turin and Pt. de Beauvoisin to Paris and England where it was placed on Cunard steamer to Boston, then traveled by steamship from New York to Aspinwall and Panama to San Francisco.
