Estimate  $400 - 600. Payment was for ½ oz. letter by British open mail via Marseille. New York used orange red handstamp to show 32¢ credit to the United Kingdom. Letter carried by P&O steamers "Valetta" from Marseille to Alexandria, "Hindostan" from Suez to Galle, Ceylon, and "Ganges" from Galle to Hong Kong, then by P&O river boat to Canton.
