1852 (Aug. 22) New Orleans La. to Bordeaux, France, folded cover bearing 1851, 1¢ blue pair and 3¢ orange brown, margins to slightly in, tied by grid cancels, red "New Orleans La. Aug 22" cds, red "British Transit." h.s., carried by Cunard Line Canada from Boston Sep. 1 to Liverpool arriving Sep.11, London (9.12) backstamp, Paris (9.14) backstamp and "13" decimes due h.s., Bordeaux (9.15) arrival backstamp, stain spot, F.-V.F., one of only four recorded "British Packet" handstamps in red.; Ashbrook notations on back. Scott No. 7, 10  Estimate $300 - 400. The "British /Packet" marking is believed to have been struck at New York during August 1852-April 1853. It is known in red and black ink. Of the 17 examples recorded, only four were struck in red ink. $0 (Image)
