1851 (Oct. 3) Philadelphia, Pa. to Bremen, folded cover with blue "Philadelphia Pa. Oct 3" cds and red "Phila. Paid 24 Cts." octagon h.s. with manuscript rerate to "20" cents, additional manuscript "Paid 20Ā¢" rating, "New-York Oct 4" cds with black "Paid Part" h.s. incorrectly struck as letter fully prepaid, Very Fine. EstimateĀ  $200 - 300. Letter departed New York 4 October on Ocean Line steamer "Washington", which returned seven days later with engine troubles. The mails were sent to Boston for the Cunard steamer "Canada", which depart Oct. 15 to Liverpool arriving Oct. 26. Only 6,015 letters were in this special mail, which went closed through England. $0 (Image)
