1851 (Jan. 29) Watertown, N.Y. to Speyer, Rhennish Bavaria, folded cover with red "Watertown N.Y. Jan 29" cds with matching "Paid" and manuscript "34" rating, "New-York Feb 6" backstamp and "Paid Part" straightline h.s., carried by Ocean Line Washington from New York Feb. 22 to Bremerhaven arriving Mar. 12, red "America/ über Bremen" h.s. and "1 1/3" due h.s., various manuscript ratings, Speyer (3.17) backstamps, Very Fine, First Bremen Treaty covers paid only to Bremen are not common. Estimate  $300 - 400. The "Paid Part" handstamp is a New York marking indicating that the letter was prepaid only to Bremen. Letter endorsed for steamer to Havre, but New York sent it on the Ocean Line steamer to Bremen. Hannover debited the Thurn & Taxis Post 1 1/3 gutegroschen or 6 kreuzer. To this was added 9 kr. transit fee to Rhennish Bavaria and 6 kr. Bavarian internal fee for a total postage due of 21 kr. $0 (Image)
