1850 (Jan. 6) Cleveland, Oh. to Limbach, Saxony, folded letter with red "Cleveland O. Jan 8" cds, "New-York Jan 12" transit backstamp and manuscript "34" cent debit rating, carried by Cunard Line Canada from New York Jan. 23 to Liverpool arriving Feb. 4, red "12¾ America/über Bremen" h.s. and red manuscript "14¾" debit rating, red crayon "209" pf. due rating; light fold at center, Very Fine, Letter was in the third Bremen Closed Mail sent from New York and third of only six Bremen Closed Mails carried by British steamships. Estimate  $200 - 300. Bremen debited Hannover 12¾ gutegroschen, a restatement of the 34¢ U.S. debit. Hannover added 2 ggr. transit fee and debited Saxony 14¾ ggr., which equaled 184 Saxony pfennige. Saxony added 25 pfennige internal fee and marked letter for 209 pfennige postage due. $0 (Image)
