Estimate  $750 - 1,000. Letter carried by Pacific Mail Steamship Co steamer Oregon to Panama and by Howland & Aspinwall Atlantic Line steamer "Cherokee" from Chagres to New York. Since California not yet a state, letters from there were considered as originating "beyond the U.S." under U.S.-G.B. treaty.
