1847, 5¢ Red Orange, rich distinctive red orange color on bright bluish paper, margins large to well clear at bottom, tied by red square grid handstamp with matching "New -York, Apr 3" cds at right on 1851 folded letter to Belvidere, N.J., Very Fine, a Wonderfully Choice Example of the 1847 5¢ Red Orange on Cover, this being one of only four recorded sound examples on cover; with 2010 P.F. certificate. Scott No. 1c $10,500. The 5¢ red orange is the rarest of all 1847 shades. According to the late C. Hahn in the Collector's Club Philatelist, the red orange shade was produced in December of 1850 during the fourth and last printings.
