Cat No:2

1847, 10¢ black, margins to touched, tied by manuscript "X" and blue "Chambersburg Pa. Dec 24" cds to Washington C.H. Pa., sent in error to Charleston, manuscript "miss. & ford" and red "Charleston S.C. Dec 29" cds; light stain and cover wrinkling, F.-V.F., a scarce missent and forwarded use. Scott No. 2  Estimate $750 - 1,000. If through no fault of the Post Office, a letter required forwarding to its recipient extra postal charges resulted; however, if a letter ended up in a town other than it was intended to be it was considered to be missent. No extra postage was charged in this case, and the letters were marked "missent & forwarded". The Charleston postmaster would later order a special handstamp to mark letters. $0 (Image)
