1844 (Oct. 1) Edinburgh, Scotland to Philadelphia Pa., folded letter with red Edinburgh (10.2) origin rimless cds, Liverpool (10.4) backstamp, carried by Cunard Line Acadia from Liverpool Oct. 4 to Boston arriving Oct. 20, Philadelphia blue "20¾" italicized rating handstamp for inland postage plus 2¢ ship fee; Very Fine. Estimate  $100 - 150. This letter was rated at Philadelphia and not at arrival port of Boston. Italicized version of Philadelphia rate stamp used for about one year before U.S. inland rates changed.
