1839 (Oct. 11) Auburn, N.Y. to Sheffield, England, folded cover with red "Auburn N.Y. Oct 11" cds and matching "Paid" h.s. with red manuscript "18Ā¾" rating, endorsed "N.Y. & Packet Postage Paid" at top, red "New-York Oct 14" cds, carried by Kermit Line Sheffield from New York Oct. 14 to Liverpool arriving Nov. 1, "Liverpool/Ship Letter" backstamp and manuscript "1/5" due 1s5d rating for 8d ship fee plus 9d inland postage, small paper loss at bottom, Very Fine, Freight money covers from Auburn are quite scarce and those by sailing ship rare. EstimateĀ  $300 - 400. Postage due consisted of 8d incoming ship fee plus 9d inland fee from Liverpool to Sheffield. Although the straight-line distance between the two locations is about 60 miles, the post road distance must have been just over 80 miles for this inland fee. $0 (Image)
