1839 (Nov. 23) Chambly, Upper Canada to Overton, England, folded letter with blind strike of "Chambly" circular postmark and manuscript "23 Nov" dating, prepaid red manuscript "2/7" currency rating for 4½d Canadian inland, 11½d U.S. inland (18¾¢), and 1s3d (25¢) freight money fees, carried by British and American Steam Navigation Company British Queen on 3rd return from New York Dec. 2 to Gravesend arriving Dec. 25, red "Ship Letter/Gravesend" backstamp and manuscript "1/" shilling due rating for 8d ship fee plus 4d uniform inland postage, Very Fine, One of only two recorded freight money covers from Chambly. Estimate  $400 - 600. British Queen was the only steamship to arrive in the U.K. during the 35 day period (5 December 1839-9 January 1840) when a uniform 4d inland fee was in effect. . $0 (Image)
