1839 (Nov. 22) Wellington Square, U.C. to London, England via Hamilton Ont., folded letter that entered mails with "Hamilton U.C. Nov 23" cds and "Paid" handstamp with red manuscript "25" cent for freight money fee and restatement in Canadian currency "4Ā½" pence, additional "Paid 25" for inland postage to U.S., carried by British Queen from New York Dec. 2 to London arriving Dec. 25, reverse with red "Ship Letter Gravesend" stepped h.s. and London (12.26) cds, manuscript "1/" shilling rating for 8d ship fee plus 4d uniform inland fee; some wear, Fine and scarce, this was the only steamship voyage into G.B. during the experimental 4d uniform inland rate period. EstimateĀ  $750 - 1,000. Letter carried on third return of nine round voyages by "British Queen" before the steamer was sold to the Belgian Government. This voyage of "British Queen" was the only steamship voyage into G.B. during the five week experimental 4d uniform inland rate period.
