1839 (Apr. 5) London, Upper Canada to London, England, folded cover with red "London" circular postmark with manuscript "Apl. 5/39" dating and black "Paid" framed h.s. with red manuscript "9" dcy rating for Canadian inland postage, Toronto (4.9) transit double circle date stamp with matching "Paid 7 & 25" to show that 7dcy from Toronto to the border and 25¢ U.S. inland fee to New York were paid, red "New-York Apr 15" exchange cds, carried by Kermit Line Virginian from New York Apr. 16 to Liverpool arriving May 9, "Liverpool/Ship letter" backstamp with manuscript "1/7" due rating for 8d incoming ship fee plus 11d British inland fee, London (5.10) arrival backstamp, hor. file fold, Very Fine. Estimate $300 - 400. The freight money fee of 12½¢ for a sailing ship and the U.S. inland fee of 25¢ was not marked. Toronto did not show freight money fees on letters.
