Violett, bold strike of red oval handstamp on blue folded letter datelined "New Orleans 31st August 1850" and addressed to Leflore Miss. that is near Greenwood on the Yazoo River, endorsed "B/L 'W. a. Violett' "; spindle hole, Very Fine. Milgram No. 1439  Estimate $300 - 400. In June 1850, Wallis & Hogan were awarded the contract for the Vicksburg to Yazoo City Route 5714 at $1,495 per annum for a three times a week service. The "William A. Violett" of 152 tons was built at Elizabeth Pa. in 1848 with four owners of whom her Master, Capt. Samuel Gwartney was one. $0 (Image)
