Steamer Harry of the West, two-line handstamp on blue folded letter datelined "New Orleans Apr. 30. 1844" and addressed to Louisiana Mo., initially carried on the New Orleans to St. Louis experimental route of 1843, oxidized red "St. Louis Mo. May 6" cds and manuscript "S.B. 50" rating for double weight over 400 miles, transferred to Route 4814 on the Harry of the West to be dropped at Louisiana located 101 miles north of St. Louis, Very Fine, ex-John A. Eggen, Dr. Vernon Morris Jr.; with 2002 P.F. certificate. Milgram No. 585  Estimate $1,500 - 2,000. In 1843, an experimental route north on the Mississippi River from St. Louis to Keokuk was contracted at $7.50 a round trip for the 206 mile route.
