(Route 8285) Indianola, bold red oval handstamp on 3¢ red Nesbitt buff entire from Carroll Hoy & Co. correspondence to New Orleans La., entered mails with partial "New Orleans Dec 2" cds, circa 1859; usual filing holes, Very Fine, ex-Carroll Chase. Milgram No. 641  Estimate $750 - 1,000. Route 8285 was used during periods when the post roads were impassible for coaches. The route operated from July 1, 1858 to May 31, 1861 when it was annulled with the secession of all Post Office contracts in Southern States. This "Indianola" was built in 1859 for the Bayou Macon trade on the Ouachita River and sold to the Red River Packet Co. in 1860. $0 (Image)
