(Restored Rates) 1849 (Feb. 9) London, England to New York, N.Y., light blue folded letter endorsed "per 'Europa' ", blue "Tooley St." straightline postmark, red London "Paid 9 FE 1849" cds with red manuscript "2/-" prepaid double-weight packet rating, carried on Cunard Line Europa from Liverpool Feb. 10 to New York arriving Feb. 24, strong strike of New York red circled "6" rating handstamp for 6¢ ship letter fee, Very Fine, an interesting use from the last westbound voyage of the restored rate, showing double packet rate and single ship letter fee. Estimate $300 - 400. Letter posted at Tooley Street receiving house in London. Letter carried on fourth and last Cunard mail voyage to the U.S. during six week period when pre-retaliatory rates were resumed before U.S.-G.B. postal convention became effective.
