(Private Local Post) 1820-1858 St John's Post, S.C., group of 20 stampless covers endorsed "Post", "St. Johns Post", "Monks Corner Post", or "Strawberry Post" indicating carriage by the private post; no postal markings as carried entirely by this local mail service, also includes four inbound covers addressed to William J. Ball at Strawberry, St. Johns; some mixed condition, a Fine and interesting group. Estimate  $1,000 - 1,500. St. John's Post was a little-known South Carolina mail service that operated during the first half of the nineteenth century between Charleston and the upper reaches of Cooper River in the St. John's and St. Thomas parishes. An excellent article about the post was written by Robert J. Karrer Jr. and Joseph T. Holleman in the American Philatelist, April 1989, p. 351-361. $0 (Image)
