(Party) American Party "Know Nothings", 3 items; two similar illustrated "Catholicism, At Election, American Triumphs" caricature storyboard covers, each franked with 1851, 3Ā¢ dull red, also a 1857 propaganda corner card "If you love your Country, If you deserve to get good Wages, Use only the Product in America"; some small flaws, F.-V.F. EstimateĀ  $200 - 300. The American or No Nothing party originated in the anti-Catholic and anti-immigration movement of the 1840's. It was reorganized nationally in 1852 and reached its height during that decade. The nickname comes from the reply "I no nothing" which members of secret lodges were instructed to give when asked about party policies. $0 (Image)
