(Overland Pony Express) Pony Express, San Francisco, Aug 7, blue Running Pony oval date stamp tying Wells Fargo & Co., 1861, $1 red on manuscript canceled 10¢ Star Die entire to Cohoes, N.Y., with red printed company frank at top and manuscript "pr Pony Express" endorsement at left, postmarked at Pony Terminus by green "St. Joseph, Mo., Aug 19" cds; cover with sealed scissor cut at right below indicia and slightly reduced at left, otherwise Very Fine, an attractive fourth rate period Transcontinental Pony Express usage (Frajola census E135); with 1997 P.S.E. certificate. Scott No. 143L3+U33  Estimate $5,000 - 7,500. This cover was carried by the Pony Express from San Francisco, Cal. to St. Joseph, Mo. where it placed in the mails after a trip of twelve days.
