(New Mexico) Albuquerque, N.M., Jul 27, cds with matching target tying 1861 3¢ rose (s.e. at right) on cover to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, endorsed "P.M. please return this to Albuquerque, N.M. as Dr. Mc Gill is dead." and Fort Leavenworth postmark, Very Fine. Scott No. 65  Estimate $200 - 300. McGilL, George McCulloch, surgeon, was born at Hannah Furnace, Centre co., Pa., Apr. 20, 1838. He served during the Civil War and later at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He received the brevet rank of colonel in the United States army for faithful services during an outbreak of cholera near Fort Harker, Kansas, and died of the disease en route to New Mexico. $0 (Image)
