(Guns) Sharps' Rifle Mfg. Co., Hartford. Conn., black printed oval advertisement illustrated showing rifle on flap, bearing 1857, 3¢ dull red, tied by "Hartford Ct. Jan" cds, addressed to Major P.T. Haynes, Commander of the Frankford, Pa. federal arsenal; flap tear, stain at left, F.-V.F. and rare early gun ad cover. Scott No. 26 Estimate $300 - 400. The New England Emigrant Aid Society furnished a Sharps' rifle to each emigrant they could persuade to move to Wabaunsee, Kansas Territory. They were shipped to Wabaunsee in crates marked "Bibles", presumably to avoid confiscation by Territorial authorities, who were attempting to cool off the Border War. $0 (Image)
